Stylist-turned-designer Ulrika Lundgren founded her fashion label Rika in 2005, after first having worked as a fashion and interior stylist for prestigious magazines such as Casa Vogue and ELLE Decoration.

During her years spent globe-trotting, she developed a strong personal taste, always on the hunt for special, truly unique pieces. The Swedish-born designer credits her grandmother, who loved to create things and taught her that the key to beauty is in the details.

After countless compliments and requests from fellow stylists and fashion friends, Lundgren designed 20 handmade bags by a saddelmaker in Spain and just like that, the Rika label was born. The style fuses rock ‘n’ roll and a timeless feminine silhouette –with a sprinkle of pared down, Scandinavian aesthetic.

She chose her favorite symbol, a star, to be her trademark. “A star reminds us of that vintage touch-of-Hollywood class as much as of a contemporary hue of rock ‘n’ roll,” said the designer, which sums up what Rika is about. “I want to make things l like to wear my self of course, that I can wear day and night time” she added.

Today, Rika includes a beautiful selection of handcrafted, chemical-free leather collection of accessory together with a small ready to wear collection of fashionable but season-less wardrobe staples. A feminine pencil skirt in leather paired with an ultra soft baby mohair striped sweater, or a star cashmere cardigan matched with a rock chic leather biker jackets are amongst Ulrika’s favorite items to wear all year round.

Ulrika lives with her family and works in Amsterdam; her studio, boutique and recently opened guesthouse, Maison Rika.

F I S H & W O O D S

A mutual friend recently started F I S H & W O O D S , a company that designs bags with clear statements. Bags with identity. Bags with concrete engagements. Sometimes the statements try to slightly adjust the world around us, at other times they merely serve to provoke a little grin on your face in order to make this planet a funnier place to live on. F I S H & W O O D S considers itself to be pretty bombastic and out there, but don’t worry, there’s no vanity or conceit to be found.

F I S H & W O O D S offers a bag that has an identity, it is strong and made of 100% organic cotton. It will be your bag to differ, your bag to state, your bag to rock the hell out of your utterly great personality. So classic, so cheap, yet so savvy.

Here are some of my favourite bags!

Midori x Nigel Cabourn.

Midori x Nigel Cabourn joined forces and made this limited army edition take on the passport size Traveler’s Notebook. A real must-have for frequent flyers like me!

MIDORI teamed up with the vintage godfather to produce a collaboration notebook set with style and ‘camo’. MIDORI and NIGEL CABOURN gave this very unique collaboration set an extra dose of lifestyle and vintage extraordinaire.

Its passport-size brown leather cover carries a stylish embossed ‘broad arrow’, a graphic icon with its origin in the British military and often present as a visual trademark throughout NIGEL CABOURN’s collections.

A further CABOURN touch is the bullet shaped brass pencil holder which received a stunning vintage military matte green coating as well as the vivid green cover of the actual notebook inside.

I love the online Misc-store that luckily for us locals, will soon open it’s first shop in Amsterdam.
